First Lady MICHELLE OBAMA has finally revealed that there’s more to her bangs than making a fashion statement.

While conducting a skype interview with RACHEL RAY, the First Lady dished, “This is my midlife crisis, the bangs.”

OBAMA, who debuted her bangs shortly before her 49th birthday, went on to reveal why she decided to be out with the old and in with the new.

“I couldn’t get a sports car. They won’t let me bungee jump. So instead, I cut my bangs,” the First Lady says.

Juicy spoke to her famed hairstylist JOHNNY WRIGHT, the hands behind the shears used to create the First Lady bangs.

WRIGHT insists the First Lady was ready for something new, saying, “Anything we do is more of collaborative effort than me pushing an idea. She simply wanted a change, and it looks great.”

During the winter months, protecting your hair from winter’s harsh elements are important, but also knowing what are the best methods to keep your hair healthy when the weather’s frightful becomes extremely imperative.

First thing to remember in protecting your mane, is to know that there’s nothing quite like a good trim to keep split ends at bay and retain lock length.

While most Juicy ladies hate to part with their hair, trimming actually is the first maintence tool to promote growth.

“Hair grows from the scalp and splits from the ends,” explains DIANE DA COSTA, owner of SimpleeBEAUTIFUL salon and author of Textured Tresses: The Ultimate Guide to Maintaining and Styling Natural Hair.

While the amount of hair that sheds can vary by the season, how much it breaks has many more variables.

“Excessive loss may be due to over-processing with chemicals, thermal styling, tight braiding or even pulling the hair back too tightly in a ponytail for too long,” says DA COSTA.

As an alternative to wearing your hair out in this cold weather, DA COSTA suggests a protective style.

“Braids give you the opportunity to add length to your natural mane,” says DA COSTA.

In addition to braids, try a quality a wig, low bun, twists, and weaves as alternatives to exposing your hair to harsh elements.

Regardless of the protective style, it’s imperative to keep your own hair well conditioned. Restorative conditioners that use keratin, shea butter and extra virgin olive oil work best in colder months. Go deeper and give your thirsty tresses a deep conditioning treatment with heat-activated treatments that use green tea extract or soy protein.

DA COSTA insists the key in hair protection stems from the simplest advice, “Most important, give your own hair a healthy opportunity to rest.”
