We may have thought all the heavy promotional efforts of Think Like A Man, bombarding us may have been over kill, but after coming in #1 this weekend – the promotional blitz paid off.
Bringing in $33 million its opening weekend, Think Like A Man blew every movie that opened this weekend out the water.
Spending less than $13 million to make, the low-budget ensemble comedy aimed at African Americas was predicted to bring in much lower numbers than it actually did.
However, with the film on every major urban website, magazine, surprise theater appearances from the cast, and even included in the storyline of popular African American targeted television shows like The Game and Basketball Wives, the No. 1 movie in North America over the weekend came as a shock to the movie industry.
Think Like a Man, directed by Tim Story and produced by Will Packer, opened stronger than all of TYLER PERRY movies except Madea Goes to Jail. And like Perry’s films, the movie skewed toward adult women, with 63 percent of the audience being female and 62 percent at least 30 years old. It beat out America’s heart throb Zac Efron, and received an excellent “A” rating from CinemaScore audiences.
Congrats to the cast, directors, and producers. We let Hollywood know we want more films that give our African American actors and actresses a chance to be seen!
