From The Mag: Hair Talk With Dontay Savoy!!!

The west coast is the best coast for DONTAY SAVOY, the hairstylist responsible for coiffing FANTASIA, SHAUN ROBINSON and ASHANTI on set, on screen and in the salon.

Imprinting the A-list with creative glam is SAVOY’s signature touch. His forte: styling wigs, weaves and lace-fronts.

Multi-tasking Savoy (the Access Hollywood stylist typically heads directly from the set to his upscale West Hollywood salon) where he smoothes the edges on some on the industry’s biggest names. You can also catch him on WE tv’s L.A. Hair with mentor KIM KIMBLE.

However, hair wasn’t initially Savoy’s plan A. The Cali native did a brief stint in college and worked “some dreadful jobs.” Nothing quite fit—that is until he enrolled into the Universal College of Beauty on the L.A. outskirts…

‘The View’ Stylist Lavette Slater Talks Spring Hair Straightening!!!

Spring’s a great season and great reason to sport a straight ‘do, but not without the latest tools and products in thermal styling.

Straight strands that are full of bounce and volume are the ideal choice for Juicy ladies looking to go straight for spring, but not at the expense of misusing heat styling tools that often results in dried and fried locks.

“Using heated styling tools everyday could cause hair breakage,” says LAVETTE SLATER, Emmy award winning celebrity hairstylist on The View.

Instead of constant heat styling, put your hair on a schedule, alternating with no-heat styles. Buns, twists, braids, and wigs are heat-free alternatives that can help protect and give hair a rest from the tug and pull of heat styling. SLATER is known for creating custom hairpieces for The View co-host, SHERRI SHEPARD.

Hair should also undergo a thorough cleansing and conditioning process followed up by the necessary deep conditioning, hot oil or protein treatments before applying heat. Locking in moisture and protein is extremely helpful to hair health because it prevents hair from becoming dry and brittle, key things that inevitably lead to breakage.

When it comes to products, investing in quality products ensures maximum results and minimizes the likelihood of heat damage. “I use Aveda Pure Abundance Volumizing Shampoo and Conditioner to give the hair extra body and bounce,” says SLATER, an advocate for providing hair with the highest quality products.

Smooth and sleek styles will never go out of style but abusing thermal appliances could result in permanent hair loss.Taking the appropriate measures before applying heat to hair can also be extremely helpful in maintaining straight hair all year round.
