The Rant: J.Lo’s War With Love
Jennifer Lopez: multi-platinum recording artist, award winning actress, producer, the first entertainer ever to hold a #1 single and #1 box office movie in the same week, judge on America’s highest grossing television show, entrepreneur with a top-selling fragrance, spokeswoman for three brands, and fashion icon with a net worth of over $250 million. All of that and the girl, can’t keep a man.
Sadly, J. Lo’s fruitful career has been stained with rumors, ex-boyfriend backlash, and negative press surrounding her short-lived romances. We have to give it to the girl – she’s got no shame in her game. Showing up arm in arm with her men at red carpets and events, she’s a sucker for love. But the story always seems to end tragically – with J.Lo single and heartbroken. I had no doubts that Jenny from the Block was in it for the long haul with long time friend and husband of seven years Marc Anthony until the couple publicly called it quits in July. Rumors are afloat that the split was the result of frequent feuding, infidelity, and Marc’s disapproval of J. Lo’s sexy image. Sure, some of that may play a role, but we’ll never really know. But I see this breakup in the same light as the others within Jenny’s mile-long dating record – men are intimidated by a successful woman.
The money J. Lo’s raking in these days is through the roof, she’s got a blazing hot career, and the body shows no signs of aging. So who would do anything to mess that up? A man who’s tired of being in the shadow of his wealthier and more successful lady, that’s who. As women, our instinctive desire is to want our men to take the lead and be our protector, but not if he’s too insecure to let you get your shine on. J. Lo’s known for her sass, intuitive business sense, and no-nonsense work ethic – doesn’t seem like the type of woman that a muted, controlling, and passive-aggressive hubby can withstand. Don’t get me wrong, Marc’s no couch potato. I mean after all, he IS the most successful salsa artist of all time. But definitely not on the level of global super stardom of Jennifer Lopez.
Once she’s officially single, we can only hope J. Lo will find happiness within herself, and won’t plunge heart first into the next fly by night relationship. I guess the rough and tough streets of New York can teach you a lot about life, but apparently not much about love.
