You may know him as the longtime contributing editor for fashion bible, VOGUE, or as the larger than life personality alongside TYRA BANKS on the hit TV series America’s Top Model, but no matter how you’ve familiarized yourself with him, you KNOW that ANDRE’ LEON TALLY is undeniably the most influential man in fashion.
Just in time for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, Juicy had the pleasure of sitting down with the style aficionado to discuss his latest conquest as museum curator of the Joquin Sorolla & The Glory Of Spanish Dress exhibition, conceptualized by famous women’s wear designer OSCAR de la RENTA, at the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute in New York City.
Mr. Talley had the following to say about what can be expected of the exhibition:
JUICY: In terms of fashion and style, what did you consider when selecting pieces for the exhibition?
ANDRE’ LEON TALLEY: The pieces must absolutely reflect the vision of OSCAR de la RENTA’s vision of the show, be historically significant to the painting, and must represent a region of Spain.
JUICY: All of the pieces featured in the exhibition are absolutely extraordinary, how difficult was it to make a final selection?
ANDRE’ LEON TALLEY: When we were in Madrid and we found these pieces in these wonderful museums, the Troyes, and the museum of Sorolla, it was very easy to select because they have such a vast array of beautiful things. Beautifully kept, beautifully preserved. So, this was very easy for us to catalogue on computers, get images and document them into working books to create the show.
JUICY: In present day fashion, where can we see Spanish influence in design?
ANDRE’ LEON TALLEY: Of course Oscar de la Renta because his roots and his culture is Spain. He went to Spain when he was 18, he loved Spain. So it’s not about literally riffing and taking a regional Extremadura poke bonnet or lavatera bride and putting it in his show it’s a sense of a nuance of style, it’s a sense of the attitude of Spain.
JUICY: What makes the “Glory of Spanish Dress” the go to exhibit during fashion week, and throughout the remainder of the exhibits duration?
ANDRE’ LEON TALLEY: What makes this the go to exhibit is that OSCAR de la RENTA had the vision, and that we have uniquely found, in Spain, something of magic that people would not have seen anywhere else in the world, and it’s the first time the Sorolla paintings have come out of Spain and are shown with the costumes and the magic of it is that the Spanish Institute on Park Avenue is opening during the holiday season, so it will give a moment of light to people who come into the museum and see these wonderful examples of beautiful, regional, Spanish dress. I don’t think there’s been an exhibit in a long time that conveys ethnic dress in such a refined way.

NE-YO’s baby moms, MONYETTA SHAW teamed up with ‘Football Wives’ star, CHANITA FOSTER, and has agreed to adopt 48 children from Swaziland, Africa.
FOSTER created the charity, Beyond the Game, in an effort to provide Swaziland children with food, education and clothes. She reached out to SHAW asking if she’d be interested in taking part and maybe adopting a child or two.
After SHAW seen the kids, she went above and beyond and agreed to adopt all 48 kids for an entire year.
The children will not be returning to the U.S. to live with NE-YO, SHAW and their fam, they will remain in Africa, however, SHAW will be covering their cost of living for a year.
Each child’s living cost runs about $30 per month, so for all 48 of them, that’s $17,280 for the year. Not bad considering SHAW and her baby daddy dropped close to $ 5000 in the strip-club earlier this week.

ONE DAY IT’LL ALL MAKE SENSE
By Common
In a fast-reading autobiography that shares a title with this third album, Common speaks candidly about growing up on the Southside of Chi-town, breaking into the music and film industries, and not losing himself when success came calling. This is a less deign-heavy music memoir that JAY-Z’s Decoded, but no matter. COMMON is more personal.
What’s fun is nothing the small, distinct differences between the alter ego that is Common and his Peter Parker self, Lonnie Lynn. But it’s a warm reminder that this renaissance man is mostly just like the rest of us. – RAKIA CLARK
