Worth Reading: Chike and the River By Chinua Achebe!!!

CHIKE AND THE RIVER

By Chinua Achebe

Perhaps the most assigned African novel at American universities is Chinua Achebe’s absolutely brilliant Things Fall Apart. But it’s not just for students. Neither is his latest book, a short piece of fiction that follows and 11-year-old who has never left his Nigerian village and desperately wants to cross a big, nearby river. But will he get the help he needs? This is a fantastic read for middle graders. But buy two copies: one for the kids and one for yourself. – RAKIA CLARK

WTH?: Chicago Woman Gets Kanye’s Name Tatted On Her Rear !!!

These days there’s no limit to how far a crazed fan will go to prove their devotion.

A Chicago woman and KANYE WEST fanatic, formerly known as Lindaresa, legally changed to Mrs. Kanye Resa West. As if that wasnt enough, she went and got the name KANYE tattooed across her butt in huge block letters. Stop the madness!

In an interview with Chicago radio station WCGI 107.5, Mrs. West was asked what on earth compelled the name changed. She claimed it was, “to get the man that I really love’s attention.”

No less than a month ago, photos of a Virginia woman with rapper DRAKE’s name tattooed across her forehead went viral. But clearly, Lindaresa, or Kanye, took it to the extreme so she could legally be called “Mrs. West” and you can’t tell her nothing!

Clearly Lindaresa, aka “Mrs. West” is a few fries short of a happy meal, but the situation forces us to wonder whats in the water that is making fans get permanent ink to prove their love to superstars they might never meet.

Devoted or deranged? I think we all know the answer.

Worth Reading: Black Girl @ The Gay Channel !!!

BLACK GIRL @ THE GAY CHANNEL

By Darlyne Baugh

Charlene Thomas is a newly-divorced woman trying to rebound her personal life and television production career while raising two kids. Thankfully, she lands a much-needed job one day after her divorce is finalized. But it’s a new kind of company for her, an upstart cable channel, too obviously named The Gay Channel.

Some parts of the novel are a little rough around the edges, but Charlene’s fish-out-of-water moments are amusing and she makes for a snappy narrator. In the end, you could say it smooths you out. – RAKIA CLARK
