Before all of these companies flooded the market promising to cater to natural hair and women of color, CAROL’S DAUGHTER was already producing products that nourish, strengthen, and deliver protection to black hair.
Now, embarking on a new path, Carol’s Daughter has recruited SOLANGE KNOWLES (who already served as one of the faces of the hair care brand) for a new hair blog on Carol’s Daughter’s new web site, called the Transitioning Movement.
Since doing the “big-chop” almost three years ago we have watched SOLANGE’s hair transition which made her a natural hair celebrity icon. Every Monday, Solange will post a new blog revealing her experiences in transitioning and caring for natural hair, while there will be other posts throughout the week that allow women to learn the how-to’s of going natural.
The site is dedicated to women ready to give up relaxer who need help in learning how to care for their hair, and will feature blogs, videos, hair advice and more.
Carol’s Daughter explained the inspiration for the new site founded on the idea that every woman should celebrate her own unique beauty.
As women transition from relaxed to natural hair with protective styles, the big chop or long or curly grow-outs, Carol’s Daughter says their aim is “to support them as they brave the change with fun, informative and helpful features.

In today’s beauty and cosmetics industries it is seldom that you come across products that are just as good for you as the cause it supports.
But the hair care line Beautiful Curls does just that.
Beautiful Curls is a part of the Alaffia skin care line that is based in Togo, West Africa and it creates Certified Fair Trade hair products. The products are made for all curl types and fall under three main categories—Curly to Kinky hair, Wavy to Curly hair and Babies.
Using pure, unrefined shea butter, Beautiful Curls’ products are also infused with coconut oil, calendula extract, vitamins and minerals. The company’s Curl Enhancing line is ideal for hair types that are loose and wavy, and the Curl Activating line works best with kinky and tightly-coiled hair.
Aside from curling shampoos and conditioners, the line makes a defining gel, sculpting wax and curl activating creams.
The shea butter used in all of Beautiful Curls’ products is handcrafted by a cooperative of women in the Sokode village of Togo.
The great thing is that proceeds from all sales are returned to Sokode where they are used to supply bikes for its citizens and create housing and community programs.
The Beautiful Curls line can be purchased at Whole Foods Market or at www.beautifulcurls.com
The brazen bald beauty AMBER ROSE may have temporarily switched up her signature look.
Known for her platinum blonde close fade, AMBER recently posted a photo of her on Instagram rocking a long blonde beach waved wig/weave. Along with the photo was the caption, “Blondie.”
After rocking her hairless do for the last eight years, many don’t know what to make of the new look.
This wouldn’t be ROSE’s first time playing with being more versatile, but we think she agrees no one rocks the AMBER ROSE signature look quite like AMBER ROSE.
Tell us what you think, take our poll…
We know we celebrated wig week last week, but we would be remiss if we didn’t include the brands that we thought were worth buying.
While it’s quite convenient these days to purchase a in-stock wig from your local beauty supply store, or go online and find the cheapest custom wig – all wigs ARE NOT created equal.
Any woman who has saved up enough pennies to purchase a wig unit from reputable brands that specialize in providing long-lasting, superior quality collections, can tell you that beauty supply wigs are not what’s up.
Don’t get us wrong, beauty supply wigs are great in terms of convenience and affordability, but in order to truly find a top-notch full lace wig you have to be willing to shell out the dough because you do pay for what you get.
After all our research diving into the world of wigs, and to ensure you don’t go spending your hard earned money recklessly in all the wrong places we come up withour top 5 Juicy approved wig brands worth every bang for your buck!
If you’re buying a wig for the first time, it’s always good to find a style that fits the frame of your face in order to flatter your best features. Certain cuts and styles of wigs have the ability to accentuate the face in the worst way.
Juicy‘s put together a list that will help you match your face shape and those perfect styles. Check it out!
Oval-shaped faces have forehead and jaws that are the same width. You can wear any style since your features are proportioned. But avoid any hair that will cover over your face.
Round-shaped faces are short and broad. To make your face appear slimmer, add height to your hair. Also layers and side bangs are great for you. Avoid bringing hair closer to your cheeks or bangs that are too full because they will make your face appear rounder.
Square-shaped faces have stronger foreheads and angular jaw-lines. Go for short or medium length styles that have a round shape and this will soften the jawline. Also try sweeping side bangs and avoid heavy bangs.
Diamond-shaped faces have a narrow chin and forehead and wide cheekbones. Keep hair light around the cheek area and fuller at the ends. A long style with hair tucked behind the ears is best. Avoid styles with middle parts because your hair will add weight around your cheeks.
Heart-shaped faces have a wide forehead and cheekbones and pointed chin area. The best styles are textured cheek length or shoulder length hair with wispy layers. You should avoid any slick-backed short hairstyles and any straight across bangs.
Pear-shaped faces have wider jaws, cheekbones, and narrow hairlines. You need layered styles that will balance your jawline. Also shorter is better than longer for your face, but if you want to go longer, be sure to do a layered look.
Oblong-shaped faces are longer than they are wide so you don’t want styles that add height to your face. Also try straight across bangs with side parts and layered styles that have wavy and curly textures. Avoid middle parts and hair that won’t add width to your face.

Like all popular hairstyles and trends, wearing a lace front or full lace wig definitely has it pro’s and con’s.
And while some women don’t think twice about rocking wigs as everyday hairstyles, believe it or not, majority of women are still very skeptical when it comes to trying out wigs based on a few common misconceptions.
So to set the record straight, Juicy caught up with celebrity stylist, ROCHELLE MOSLEY, to clear up what’s really fact or fiction when it comes to lace wigs.
Known for styling the manes of tennis phenom SERENA WILLIAMS, comedian ADELE GIVENS, and philanthropist MALAAK COMPTON-ROCK (wife of comedian CHRIS ROCK), MOSLEY has become quite a dominant force in the hair industry as the author of a book entitled, How To Do Your Hair At Home, as well as a proud owner of Salon 804 located in Harlem, NYC.
Juicy gets MS. MOSLEY to give her take on some of the most common believed wigs myth’s heard in the streets. Take a look at what she had to say!
