Keratin treatments are the new black. If you have yet to treat your precious strands to the silky smooth effects of a Brazilian keratin treatment this fall what are you waiting for?
nuNAAT’s new Brazilian Keratin Treatment collection is the perfect solution for protecting your mane against the dry, brittle, and frizzy damage that cold weather causes on the hair during fall and winter.
So whether you’re color treated, chemically processed, or just looking for a hair strengthening system, this affordable at-home daily treatment is guaranteed to give you sleek, straight strands and extend the life of your keratin salon treatment in between salon visits.
Not only is nuNAAT’s line 100% formaldehyde-free and sodium-chloride free, but the products are made with keratins extracted from vegetables such as corn, wheat, and soy, which are resistant to rinsing and seals hair cuticles to reduce volume and frizz for a longer period of time versus animal keratin.
Some of the products in the NuNAAT Brazilian Keratin Treatment collection include the Deep Moisturizing Mask and Conditioner which are formulated to help unruly hair more manageable. nuNaat’s Keratin Reconstructor creates soft, silky locks after the hair is dried and flat-ironed and the Intense Hair Mask, a weekly conditioner, provides continuous strength and shine when used.
The nuNAAT Brazilian Keratin products can be found at drugstores and mass retailers, or at www.nuNAAT.com.
The idea of a chocolate-infused hair care line sounded too good to be true – but it isn’t.
We’re pleasantly surprised to cosign the Chocolat Collection by Carol’s Daughter, a uniquely made hairline created to smooth and soften the hair’s cuticle from the inside.
The formula utilizes several powerful botanicals including cacao extract and keravis, a plant protein that rebuilds hair by filling in lifted cuticles.
The line is comprised of a shampoo, conditioner, and blow dry cream. The Chocolat Smoothing Shampoo includes a coconut-derived cleanser used to rid the hair of dirt, grime, and product build-up without stripping hair of it’s natural oils.
The Chocolat Smoothing Conditioner contains sunflower seed oil which gives the hair the moisture it needs without weighing your hair down.
Last but not least, Chocolat Smoothing Blow Dry Cream contains soy proteins to soften and smooth the hair while protecting and preparing hair for heat styling.
The Chocolat Smoothing Collection is the perfect decadent collection to give us the healthy hair we “crave.” $54, www.carolsdaughter.com
Many of us have sworn by our hair shampooing rituals for decades. Whether we faithfully rinse with only cold water only, condition with mayo (yes the sandwich spread), or use vinegar and honey, chances are we have an even longer list of other “do’s and don’ts” that have stuck with us for years.
Juicy did some research on all those pesky hair rules, olds wives tales, and myths to determine which are rules and which are just rumors.
Take a look. – TY ALEXANDER
Glue in weaves don’t get the respect they deserve.
While we know their are better options for installing your weaves, for a quick hair switch up, or for the most temporary hair style changes we must confess a glue-in weave is the quick fix. However all weaves come with a price, and glue in aka quick weave may be easy to put in, but removing a glued-in weave is an entirely different ball game.
The biggest fear for weave wearers going the glue route is having remnants of glue that don’t come out. Having to drown our hair in oil sheen or keeping in a leave in conditioner for years just don’t cut it. There has to be a simpler way that doesn’t require grease ball hair, or the magic touch of a professional.
What how about a professional used product? Keratin Glue Remover is what the professionals in the biz are using to get rid of those embedded pieces of glue in the hair after taking out extensions. Let’s see how Keratin Glue Removers stack up to the other options:
Keratin Glue Remover vs Other Glue Removers
We all know that hair can be a bit weak once extensions are taken out, and its great that Keratin Glue remover treats weakened hair while discarding the glue to make it wash out much easier. One the most popular glue removers, Proclaim Bond Remover leaves the hair greasy, takes a much longer time to remove the glue and takes more than one wash with remover to get all the glue out. Keratin Glue Remover wins.
Keratin Glue Remover vs Conditioners
Removing your hair glue with conditioner is a very time consuming process. Applying conditioner, placing a shower cap on your head with or with out heat to soften the glue is a definite no. More times than not the conditioners softens the glue but melts right back into your hair. Leading to breakage and you wishing you never did a glue in the first place. Conditioners are good for removing tracks, but don’t do much for removing glue except spread around in your hair. Keratin Glue Remover wins once again for speed and ease.
Keratin Glue Remover vs Oil Based Products
Baby oil and oil sheen requires too much grease and pulling when removing glue. Look at how much we cringe when it’s time for a trim at the salon, you don’t want to loose more hair than expected just taking out a weave. The acid tone base, hydro carbon and glycerin ingredients in Keratin Glue Remover followed by a good shampoo will leave your hair glue free the right way.
Juicy girls always opt for the healthier way to stay pretty, don’t change it up now try the Keratin Glue Remover and keep your hair.
Just when you think you have the perfect hair routine down packed someone always throw salt in the game. There seems to always be a “newer” more “improved” method that supposedly is healthier for your strands than the last thing you tried.
Well for once we’re making it easier, and giving you an old school method that has simply come back with a new name. We’re bringing back a super effective cap conditioning method that will instantly replenish moisture to dry and damaged hair. While many of us probably refer to this method as deep conditioning , “the streets” have given it a new government name – baggying.
Baggying takes deep conditioning to the next level, using an overnight green-house type effect on your hair. In short, replenishment for your hair is created by covering your strands with a processing cap and hair scarf for 8-12 hours, helping to lock in moisture and non-damaging heat.
Whether your hair is chemically processed or in its natural state, learn a throwback way of correctly adding life back into your strands with this easy step-by-step baggying guide.
Step 1: Start with clean dry hair and add a small amount of conditioner or moisturizer to your strands (a little goes along way). Try AVLON’S KeraCare Butter Cream Everyday Moisturizer, 8oz, $15, avlon.com
Step 2: Comb product from scalp to ends for even distribution, and cover with a plastic processing cap.
Step 3: Secure the processing cap with a elastic headband and then cover the cap with a head scarf or bonnet. Let sit overnight.
Step 4: Next morning, remove cap and style as usual. If hair is still moist let air dry or blow-dry on low heat.
We recommend baggying twice a week. But remember this is a restorative method so once you notice your hair returning to a healthy state it’s best to stop until needed again. Believe it or not, too much moisture can cause breakage to your strands.
What Black woman do you know rocking feather extensions?
Currently one of the biggest trends in the hair industry, feather extensions are gaining popularity everywhere except in Black salons. Is it because we don’t know enough about them, or did singer KELIS ruin it for everyone when she decided to wear an entire bird wing in her head earlier this summer? Either way, get educated on one of the hair world’s most eclectic trends.
Simply put feather extensions are another way to temporarily add unique color and style to your hair without damaging your stands. Believe it or not the actual feathers used are produced from live roosters, hence the different array of colors, sizes, and lengths.
Most feather extensions are made up of 1 to 3 individual feathers fused or beaded together to create one piece, so the key to making your extension stand out from the next chicks is selecting the perfect color and texture combination.
The extension is easily placed into the hair with a hair hook, silicone micro-bead, and hair clamp tool. The entire process takes an estimated 10 minutes tops and the extension should lasts approximately 3 months or until your ready to take it out. So if you had any concern that wearing feather extensions would interfere with your daily hair regimen, rest assured feathers can be cleansed, curled, wrapped, and flat-ironed regularly.
Not to long ago, feather extensions were hard to come by unless purchased online or installed by a salon that offered the extension service. But now thanks to supply and demand, local beauty supply stores now easily stock inexpensive feather extension do-it-yourself kits for about $10-$30.
So now that Juicy has put you on to the ins and outs of feather extensions, are you Team #ForgetAFeather or Team #FeathersAreFly?

Damn, if it wasn’t defeating enough that your dreams of ever pledging AKA were put on hold because you failed to meet the long hair stereotype, now get this: apparently the newest criteria to pledge is making sure your hair is chemical free.
At least that’s what it takes to join the new self-proclaimed Pi Nappa Kappa Sorority. Yeah, you read it correctly, Pi Nappa Kappa, an au natural hair sorority dedicated to providing educational resources to people of African descent on healthy hair and healthy lifestyle choices.
We guess natural hair blogs, YouTube videos, JuicyMagOnline.com, and hair care forums weren’t enough for the naturalista’s, as they united earlier this week on Facebook to debut their sisterhood, or as some may call it, a mockery based on hair texture.
Mockery or not, these ladies aren’t playing any games, as of last night the organization had 1,858 fans, all pledging to educate, inspire and uplift natural hair women, men, boys and girls throughout the entire world. Not to mention, changing the word “nappy” into a “happy” and celebrated term.
We can’t knock the hustle of Pi Nappa Kappa for bringing together and empowering African-American women throughout the world, but to call it a sorority may be taking it a tad bit to far. And, the last people you want to disrespect are the National Pan-Hellenic Council, that represents all nine of the historically African-American Greek lettered fraternities and sororities.
Let’s keep it 100, all nine of the historically African-American Greek lettered fraternities and sororities have legitlly have taken a life-long commitment to building educational, economical, and cultural activism. So boycotting “creamy crack“ and texturizers for the sake of preserving the integrity of natural hair just doesn’t quite measure up.
C’mon, we get the play on words, but Nappa isn’t even a real letter in the Greek alphabet, so how can Pi Nappa Kappa expect anyone to take them serious? Sorry to say it, but naturalista’s you have truly outdone yourselves with this natural hair movement – a simple Facebook page, twitter feed, and national hair convention would have sufficed.
Someone call up INDIE ARIE and let her know we need a remix to I Am Not My Hair, because Pi Nappa Kappa didn’t get the message the first time around.
There’s no better feeling than leaving the salon with your hair fried, dyed, and laid to the side. But the secret to a well-maintained mane starts with a good lather.
Many drug store shampoos are so highly concentrated with sulfates (the chemical that creates the lather) that it strips hair of it’s essential oils and moisture. Believe it or not, the shampoo and conditioner you use is the foundation to a healthy head of hair. The trick is to know what products work best for you, so here is a run down of the best shampoos and conditioners to use based on your hair type.
