March/April 2013 Issue!!!

Here at Juicy, we love talking about relationships—real, alleged, celebs and civilians alike. So when we had to rank the Juiciest couples for the second year in a row, we had more fun than a little bit.

Not all of my personal faves made the list, but I dig the ones that did, like newcomers (KEYSHIA COLE and DANIEL GIBSON) and repeat offenders (BEYONCE and JAY-Z).

And while I appreciate all of our advertisers (they keep this machine running), it broke my heart to lose two pages from our  “This Love is Unbreakable” story, featuring the most memorable on-screen couples (shout-out to Weezy and George Jefferson, and Florida and James Evans… damn, damn, damn).

Speaking of unbreakable, check out what RHOH’s BORIS KODJOEMary Mary’s TINACAMPBELLRHOA’s APOLLO and LHHA’s JOE BUDDEN shared about their relationships.

But don’t spend so much time fawning over theirs that you neglect your own. Be well and keep it Juicy!

Worth Reading: American Tapestry: Ancestors of Michelle Obama by Rachel L. Swarns!!!

MICHELLE OBAMA‘s ancestry is and isn’t a big surprise. Her background – Black, White and Native American – is a bold-faced model for how America has evolved.

RACHEL L. SWARNS, a reporter who first tackled this subject in a New York Times article, had her work cut out for her in researching ever nook and cranny of the First Lady’s lineage.

It was well worth the effort. And if it inspires the rest of us to shake our own family tress, then that makes two good reasons to pick up American Tapestry: The Story Of The Black, White, and Multiracial Ancestors of Michelle Obama.

Worth Reading: NW: A Novel By Zadie Smith!!!

ZADIE SMITH, known for ambitious, smart fiction, has written the noel that everybody and their grandma should be talking about.

For NW, she returns to Northwest London, the neighborhood that was prominently featured in her breakout first novel White Teeth.

Here, SMITH follows four young Londoners as they begin their adult lives outside of public housing for the first time. They have dreams and talent, but little else.

How their different lives interconnect and overlap is a moving illustration of how a neighborhood can shape its people and vice versa.

Coiffed yet carefree styles are CHUCK AMOS’ signature—and fashion’s the name of his hair game.

One of the first prominent African-Americans to do high fashion styling, he changed the way black women saw their hair in the ’90s.

“Celebs took notice and got a feel of what I was doing and a new breed of black hair emerged,” says the tress-pert, who takes credit for much-loved looks like BRANDY’s braid streaks and BEYONCE’s signature tousled locks…
